Tax Synchronization for Shopify

You can now match Shopify taxes with taxes in RO App – and the system will automatically apply the right tax to order items.

Written by Hanna

If your Shopify store uses several tax rates, you previously had to check and correct them manually for every order. Now you only need to match Shopify taxes with RO App taxes – everything else happens automatically.

Tax mapping in Shopify settings

Tax mapping is now available in Ecommerce Connect settings for Shopify shops. It appears on the second step of connecting a new shop. For shops that are already connected, you can set up or change tax mapping at any time.

The list of taxes available for mapping is built from the shop's recent orders, so at first you'll only see the taxes that have already appeared in orders. If a new tax comes up in the shop later, it will appear in the settings as unmapped – and you'll need to map it the same way as the rest.

Less manual work with taxes in orders

For each Shopify tax rate, with its name and percentage, you select the matching tax from your list in the Settings > Finance > Taxes section. After that, when an order is imported or updated, the right tax is automatically applied to each order item – based on which rate is assigned to that item in Shopify.

Good to know

  • Shopify doesn't have a single stable identifier for taxes, so the mapping is saved using several tax characteristics – the name, the rate, and the source when it's available. If you later change a tax's name or percentage in Shopify, RO App will treat it as a new tax, and you'll need to map it separately.

  • If a tax rate isn't mapped – or a previously mapped tax is no longer available – this won't block the order from being imported. That item will simply stay without a tax until you update the mapping in the integration settings.

  • Mapping only works one way – from Shopify to RO App. You can't create or edit tax rates in Shopify from RO App.
